Karin is a qualified Art Director, holds a Master of Design and a Diploma of Ceramic Art. Her creative career spans three decades and involves 2D and 3D works that over the years have gained awards, international clients and commissions to the National Museum of New Zealand. Karin works from a seaside studio at Waitārere Beach, in New Zealand.

A background in visual communication and a fondness for graphic wit has an influence on my creative process; I act on the spark of an idea and through a combination of play and logic, unexpected solutions arise. It gives me great joy to bring these ideas to life through clay, and to experience how people connect and interact with them. 

I’m inspired by nature (including human) and everyday life. I play with form and function and like my pieces to be useful (not always practical) and open to interpretation, and to pass the smile test before I let them go.

Growing up in Norway has influenced my aesthetic. I like to work with simple forms and use sand from the New Zealand coastline to add subtle tone and texture to surfaces. Each piece is individually built by hand.
