As Covid19 started to take its toll on the globe, and graphics of the virus flashed at us from TV screens, I looked into what the Corona viruses look like, and thought “they could make nice teapots!”.

I made rough sketches with the most distinct features of each virus; Covid19, Sars and Rhino (common cold), and took the liberty of improvising with Swine Flu, instead of spikes it got snouts.

While making the teapots, Covid19 started spreading in New Zealand. I had one body left and made a “Shut” teapot, just as NZ went into lockdown.

The Virus teapots will be on show at Toi Gallery at Pataka in a group exhibition set to open as society eases its way back into normality, on June 12th, 2020.
